A welcome message

My journey working in education actually began when I was 15, despite still being in education myself. Rather than taking up a part time job in a cafe or the local corner shop, I decided I wanted to make a difference as soon as I was able to. I began tutoring primary aged children, which then progressed as I aged to GCSE and A-level students. I qualified as a teacher in 2023, and began supply teaching whilst I completed by masters degree in SEN and inclusion. Now, I have my own wonderful Key Stage 2 class.

I have 30 children in front of me everyday. They’re all following the same curriculum but not one of them learns in the same way. Some thrive on routine and structure, others need more flexibility. Some need quiet and calmness, others need movement breaks. Every child is unique. Teaching, as I have began to realise, is more than delivering content. It is about adapting to every child’s strengths and differences.

This is the thinking behind All Kinds of Clever. The phrase is a reminder that intelligence is not linear, academic success is not the sole measure of ability, and that children are clever in many, many ways.

This blog is aimed at educators, parents and anyone interested in inclusive education. I will be sharing research-informed reflections and my classroom experiences, focussing on the idea that all children deserved to be recognised for who they are. When we start looking for all kinds of clever, we find it everywhere.
